When our Founders set to the task of creating a government for the new independence from Great Britain, they kept what was good about English law & principles, adding that which would truly create a nation of equality and liberty. It was a mistake for the British to accept socialism, just as it is a mistake on the part of a portion of Americans today to think that any facet of Marxism would be better than our constitutional republic.
The direction that the people of the United Kingdom are allowing their united nation's future is dismal and it is a real danger for Western civilization by allowing Islamic fascism infiltrate and subvert their government and culture. It is their mistake that too many in the United States are allowing the same to happen, but at a more slow pace. Indeed, entire Europe, except for a couple of countries, that path is also being followed. We the People have allowed the ruling elite to take control via a growing government all in the name of the premonition of false safety and the cost will be relinquishing rights & liberties that was fought for in the American War of Independence.
While it is natural to seek a "more perfect Union", human endeavors cannot ever reach perfection but it does not mean people cannot strive for more perfection. The people of the United Kingdom did not listen to Winston Churchill or Margaret Thatcher when they explained that socialism (Marxism) does not work. History has given us examples (Soviet Union) and those examples are present today (Venezuela).
Despite conflicts of 1776 and 1812, Great Britain (United Kingdom) has been a dependable ally until recent history. Like the United States, poor leadership has caused issues that cannot be resolved with Marxism.
Great Britain once commanded a presence globally that compared to the Roman Empire. It could be great once more if the people demand that Marxism be ignored and follow the lead of the American founders. Just like We the People of the United States can keep our nation great by doing the same and knowing that our form of government is the best ever devised in history. But it cannot work if the Constitution is circumvented and ignored. We the People must ensure that is fulfilled.
Our Founders wisely saw that democracy, especially in its pure form, does not work - and Karl Marx recognized that democracy ultimately becomes socialism. Our Republic has the good parts of democracy, but was designed to live by the rule of law and not the rule of the mob.
"Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence, the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake; since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of Republican Government." —George Washington (1796)
