Public schools are financed by our tax dollars and education standards is set generally by state governments overseen by the federal government. Curriculum and standardized tests for K-12 is through a board of regents, state colleges, and universities. Most of the funding ($1.3 trillion) comes from state and local governments through taxation. The education system is segmented into primary or elementary school, middle school, secondary school (high school) and finally tertiary education provided by colleges and universities. Post-secondary (tertiary) education includes non-degree programs that lead to certificates and diplomas and six degree levels: associate bachelor, first professional, master, advanced intermediate, and research doctorate. There are also post-doctorate research programs. Special education is across the various levels. All fall under the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) while still being overseen at the state level.
Some of the major problems are dropout numbers in urban areas. The best schools in many areas today are private schools, but it becomes a burden many parents cannot bear. Public schools in the United States have continually lagged behind other developed countries in reading, math, and science, progressively lowering standards as Marxism and cultural engineering have increased since 1970s.
School funding varies and is determined by geographic location mostly because school funding depends upon property taxes. The federal government supplies 8.5% of public school funding, and that was from a 2005 report. State and local government provides 48.7% and 42.8% from local sources. In Hawaii local funds amount to 1.7% and state sources account for 90.1%.
Since the 1970s when Mao Marxists infiltrated colleges and universities through the anti-Vietnam War program sponsored by foreign Marxists wanting the United States to dissolve their involvement in the South Vietnam war against communists of the North. It has been in a steady decline falling further away from international education standards.
Mary Kay Linge wrote at New York Post in February 2020:
“1619 is a perfect example of what has gone so wrong in American schools when it comes to history,” Petrilli said. “It isn’t teaching history, warts and all; it’s only just the warts.”
“Because Common Core called for a greater focus on nonfiction reading material in the early grades, publishers have put out more books for children on history themes,” Petrilli said — everything from straightforward biographies of important Americans to rollicking graphic novels like “Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales,” which retell stories like the Donner Party disaster, the battle of the Alamo, and more.
Public schools have progressively gained power, just like the growing government and Democrat Socialists have progressively degraded the family unit through encouragement of single parenting, etc. This in turn also degraded parental participation and oversight of their children's education.
Those students of the '70s who marched against the “Establishment”, became the “Establishment” - becoming teachers, professors and education administrators carrying their socialist/communist ideology with them. They invoked the First Amendment and demanded free speech but only if others fell in line with their Marxist thinking. Some of those students became lawyers and professors of law, progressing to the point where the rule of law and our Constitution was meant to be “flexible” and law became the object of manipulation and circumventing. Some of those lawyers were elected into public office in state and federal offices and the growth of government authority and bureaucracy progressed into what we see today.
The rule of law that made our Republic great was being transferred into the “rule of the mob” and the Democratic Party emphasized what the Founders were against – creating a democracy that progressed into the democratic socialism we see today. All of this was done behind the scenes until today when they have become emboldened and strengthened by a degraded indoctrinated education system that strengthened their control and “came out of the closet” as American Marxists, while still claiming to be “Democrats”. The education system has produced students and graduates that hate America through programs designed to rewrite history, pinpointing upon the dark periods of history of our nation using racism as their social tool and instead of continued dispelling of social racism has in fact increased racial tension based upon lies and misinformation. This in turn has created another division which the Democratic Party had imposed in the 1800s, which led to the American Civil War. After that war and the period known as the “Reconstruction”, Democrats founded the KKK and created the “Jim Crow Laws” that modern Democrats falsely accuse the Republicans of instituting by demanding Voter ID and other preventive measures against fraudulent elections.
All of this was made possible by infiltrating and achieving control of our education system. They watered down our education system in order to increase amount of graduates, but by so doing they have moved the United States lower down the ladder of international education standards, to the point where college students (and graduates) have poor reading skills. Much of this was achieved by dispensing with tried-and-proven traditions and circumventing traditional social and civic morality and what makes a successful civilization.
The Founders, especially Thomas Jefferson, saw that quality education was important across the spectrum of a civilized society and also produces better citizens from the base of a nation's youth.
Karl Marx, founder of Marxism (socialism and communism), also saw the importance of education except that the state, not the parent-teacher relationship, should be in control of education through indoctrination, being taught only what the state deems necessary and fit to its long-term goal of totalitarianism.
All of this degradation began with the colleges and universities. Today, the easiest majors identified by the highest average GPA are:
Psychology
Criminal Justice
English
Education
Social Work
Sociology
Communications
History
The core curriculum is based upon the premise that college and university administrators want graduates with a “well-rounded” education.
In 2018, about 20.4 million students attended college and many of them took courses that appeared to be “fun” and interesting, instead of what they would need to establish a viable career. Those courses have accumulated into a series of ridiculous courses that one could achieve a degree in and those graduates wonder why they are forced to work at a fast-food restaurant instead of a successful career. In other words, colleges and universities have made getting a degree a waste of money and time.
Here is a list of courses available that is unbelievable:
Tree Climbing – a college credit being earned that will “teach how to get up into the canopy of any tree, to move around, even to climb from one tree to another without touching the ground”.
Getting Dressed – Learn the art of getting ready in the morning by knowing what to wear and why we wear it. Even learn how to dress when reaching age of over 40.
Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame - “The central objective is to unravel some of the sociological relevant dimensions of the fame of Lady Gaga.”
South Park and Contemporary Social Issues - “Often controversial itself, South Park uses humor to explore issues such as immigration, gay marriage, terrorism, and hundreds more.” (Professors Dr. Josh Baron and Dr. Sarah Raley)
How to Watch Television - “For students to critically evaluate the role of television in their lives as well as in the life of the culture.”
Game of Thrones – Earn college credit at the University of Virginia by exploring the George R.R. Martin books that instigated the acclaimed series.
Cryptozoology – One credit class devoted to studying cryptids, chupacabra, Loch Ness Monster, Sasquatch, etc.
The Physics of Star Trek – Santa Clara University in California (of course) students study the physics of intergalactic travel and examine the long-running TV show and series of films.
ELVISH – University of Wisconsin students study the fictional language of Elves created by the renowned author of fantasy, J.R.R. Tolkien.
History of Surfing – University of California, a state where surfing as a sport was established in the '60s. Students learn the history and also learn about coastal communities and how surfing has influenced cultures globally.
The Amazing World of Bubbles – At Caltech one learns how to combine glycerin, water, air and using a plastic wand to form bubbles several ways examining those that a dangerous to engines to bubbles as an aid to medical procedures.
Self-Aware Culture of 21st Century America – Duke University students study the culture of “California's exceptionalism” - ignoring the fact that California has become a “Banana Republic” third-world state.
Disasters, Catastrophes, and Human Behavior – Students at Michigan State University has one course that examines what it takes to stay alive during a zombie apocalypse. The course is offered online so you can study in the privacy of your dormitory and reduce the chance of becoming a meal of the undead.
Maple Syrup: The Real Thing – Alfred University offers students a chance to tap maple trees and explore local maple sugaring operations and environmental science.
Courses like Communications and Marine Biology produces graduates that rarely are able to obtain a job/career in that venue. Costing on an average of $25,000 – the only benefit received is by the college or university funds.
Gender, American, African, or Leisure Studies – While becoming popular, this venue rarely culminates into an income generating career. Most likely the professor will spend the semester blaming “white” people for every bad thing to minorities and women imaginable. At the University of Iowa, students attending “leisure studies” analyze and re-analyze how people spend their free time.
Art History and Appreciation – While interesting to budding artists, it is a set of courses where students spend hours twice a week for a full semester deliberating the meaning of drawings and paintings.
Learning From YouTube – A class where students watch YouTube videos and then discuss them. Students are required to leave comments on videos. Of course this is available in California at Pitzer College. And since YouTube is mentioned, here is a YouTube video discussing Useless College Degrees and Classes:
While Anthropology (I took the course while attending Kansas State University at Fort Riley) and Archaeology (University of Maryland) is pleasurable for students interested in history and travel, getting a degree in either of these vocations is not usually rewarding unless you have the money to receive a Ph.D. in one of those fields and then spend years as an underpaid intern or research assistant. Those who graduate with a degree in anthropology and archaeology hope to spend time on a historical excavation site or at least in a museum studying the findings of those in the field. But those jobs are hard to find. A doctorate from Harvard or Yale may land you a job at an excavation site, most often you will find yourself excavating your backyard. Once could hope to land a job as a professor of either of these vocations.

Recently parents have been paying more attention what their children are being taught in school and seeing how America's youth are being manipulated into unthinking minions for the democratic socialist state. Indeed, this has worried the Democratic Socialist hierarchy to the point where the Biden administration has deemed parents who speak out against indoctrinated curriculum as “domestic terrorists”.
Adina Kutnicki wrote:
While the indoctrination of America’s schoolchildren — in the direction of socialism/Marxism/communism — has been ongoing for decades on end, countless have been subliminally silenced into veering away from what their “lyin’ eyes” saw. Similarly, others were (and still are) too terrified to be perceived as “jingoistic” and pro-America, so, an omertà became the “norm.” As such, most of the nigglings remained on the down-low. Effectively, it left decades worth of room and space for those in-the-know to proceed unimpeded . Understood? As to the parents, tragically, most remained (and still are) silent. Blind as bats. …. This curriculum is being promoted by the big teacher's unions in New York to be adopted by the entire state. … These lessons and one like them are why teachers are concerned about 'spectators' listening to them since school will be virtual this fall.
A University of Washington professor has published a book that advocates “Marxist and socialist ideas” in education. This is the persona of who is teaching America's youth. It has been widely publicized the dangers of the Marxist Critical Race Theory (CRT) sponsored by the teacher's union and those in charge of the Department of Education.
Some Schools Don't Want You to Know What they are Teaching - “Parents should be wary of projects that want to reframe history or train children to see injustice all around them. … Lawmakers must maintain a consistent message that parents should be allowed to know what their children are taught, and can choose how and where their children learn.”
There is also the matter of sex education that has progressed from students learning the biology of sex to kindergarten children being exposed to literal pornography. Public schools are not focusing upon literature, mathematics, science and (true) history that help them progress towards college and university education. Indeed, constitutional civics is no longer taught in middle and high schools, replaced by Marxist indoctrination.
The problem has become complex and our education system is failing because:
Parents are not involved enough. There must be interaction outside the school and the system of parent-teacher association has diminished, partly due to both parents having to work in order to pay for all those taxes, fees, utilities, rent/mortgage and myriad of insurance premiums required.
Schools are Closing - Public schools have been closing for various reasons.
Schools Are Overcrowded – Public schools closed causes students to transfer to another district. NCES has determined that 14% of schools in the United States exceeds capacity. Overcrowded classrooms means less time to be attentive to the needs of students and individual attendance to those having difficulty.
Downside of Technology – While technology in the classroom can be useful, it has its downside and parents tend to download educational games as soon as children have the ability to operate a touch screen or keyboard. The intent is good, but the result has proven the opposite. In the process handwriting has taken a down turn, and script writing looks to be a thing of the past. Good handwriting was once a basic function to excel in education and properly communicate in the adult world.
School Spending – While the United States spends more on education than any other successful nation, the USA falls behind when it comes to international standards. This means, education is costing more with poor results. Taxpayers are not getting their money's worth. While the Federal government oversees overall education, it is state and local governments that determine salary for teachers. Colleges and universities set the salary for their professors while administrators are making a salary that some CEOs would drool over. The teachers union, as all unions have historically done, make matters worse due to its political overtures and demand for more socialist curriculum as well as making it difficult to fire “bad” teachers and discouraging “good” teachers who do not follow the Marxist movement. Charlie Kirk has pointed out the solution – stop hiring Marxist teachers and start paying teachers who teach constitutional civics and the important basics of what students need to climb the educational hierarchy towards a substantial career and as responsible citizen adults. Those “good” teachers should be rewarded with a fair salary based upon their education and demonstrations of good teaching practices. The following is a video of Charlie Kirk's in a 2020 GOP Convention:
The following video is Charlie Kirk addressing the problem of our education system:
The gist of local public school curriculum is governed by the local school board, and as we have seen in the media, parents are rebelling because those board members are pushing things like CRT and Marxist history classes first initiated by the Obama administration's “Common Core” nonsense. They are also seeing how the sex education classes have been degraded to pornography and cultural engineering of young minds. Therefore it is up to We the People, those financing our education system, whether you are parents with children in schools or anyone without any children – this Marxism and depraved curriculum must be stopped and a complete reformation of our education system be reestablished to include bringing back constitutional civics back to classrooms. At the same time, demand that teachers be held responsible and they receive proper salaries according to their education and endeavor to provide a stepping-stone for America's youth to a satisfying career and responsible citizenship. Good teachers should be rewarded and those not meeting those standards and indoctrinating our children be removed.
