PROGRESSIVE DEGRADATION OF U.S. EDUCATION

Public schools are financed by our tax dollars and education standards is set generally by state governments overseen by the federal government. Curriculum and standardized tests for K-12 is through a board of regents, state colleges, and universities. Most of the funding ($1.3 trillion) comes from state and local governments through taxation.
The education system is segmented into primary or elementary school, middle school, secondary school (high school) and finally tertiary education provided by colleges and universities. Post-secondary (tertiary) education includes non-degree programs that lead to certificates and diplomas and six degree levels: associate bachelor, first professional, master, advanced intermediate, and research doctorate. There are also post-doctorate research programs. Special education is across the various levels. All fall under the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) while still being overseen at the state level.
